AMENDMENTS TO THE LAW ON COMPETITION: WHAT CHANGES TO EXPECT?

Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, adopted amendments to the Law on Competition (Law). From February 1 it will be easier for victims of antitrust violations to defend their rights by claiming compensation for damages suffered due to such infringements.

Until now, the Law on Competition lacked certain provisions explaining the procedure of compensation for damages. It is hoped that explicit rules on the regulation of compensation for damages will allow the victims of antitrust violations to defend their rights and interests more effectively.

The amendments also envisage changes related to the fees paid for merger examination. From February 1 the fees will be paid to the Competition Council‘s budget.
