COMPETITION COUNCIL OPENS INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGEDLY MISLEADING ADVERTISING BY THE SUPERMARKET CHAIN RIMI

29 09 2014

On September 29, the Competition Council (KT) opened an investigation into a suspected misleading advertising by the supermarket chain Rimi.

The KT will evaluate whether the toy discount advertisements promoted in the press, radio and television may have mislead consumers.

Opening of an investigation means that there are reasonable grounds to suspect an infringement; however, it does not mean that such an infringement exists.

The KT has prepared Guidelines on Assessment of Misleading and Unlawful Comparative Advertising together with a brief note on that. The authority regularly organises seminars on how to avoid misleading advertising and opearate in conformity with the Law on Advertising. The KT also notes that an advertisement should clearly state what goods are subject to discount.
