The Lithuanian Competition Council closed the investigation into the compliance of Swedbank actions with the requirements of the Law on Competition upon Swedbank submitting written commitments suitable for the elimination of the alleged competition law breach and creating preconditions to avoid it in the future.
The Competition Council found that the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries and members of its Presidium concluded an anti-competitive agreement by setting the amount of notary fees and agreeing upon their calculation procedure. The Council imposed EUR 88,400 fine on the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries, and fines ranging from EUR 100 to EUR 20,800 on eight members of the Presidium for the infringements of the Law on Competition and the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union.
The Competition Council reported that UAB Rimi Lietuva (RIMI) failed to implement merger remedies which the authority approved as a condition when clearing the acquisition by RIMI of 100 per cent shareholding and sole control of UAB Palink ( PALINK ).
The Competition Council concluded that Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) properly implemented the remedies concerned with the divestiture of business related to international carriers‘ compulsory motor vehicle third party liability (MTPL) insurance in Lithuania.
The Competition Council found that UAB Norvesta and the German company Sypra concluded a cartel agreement while participating in the radioactive scrap metal auction conducted by Ignalina nuclear power plant, and thus were fined EUR 27,500 and EUR 27,100 respectively.
On October 18 the Competition Council cleared the acquisition of 100 per cent of UAB Palink ( PALINK ) shares and control by UAB Rimi Lietuva ( RIMI ) on condition that RIMI will sell part of its business related to retail trade.
The Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (Court) upheld the Competition Council’s decision, according to which the Council prohibited the acquisition of 100 per cent of Maltosa shares by Viking Malt Oy .
The Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (Court) rejected the appeal by Litesko and upheld the Council’s decision, according to which Alytus City Municipality infringed the Law on Competition.
Vilnius Regional Administrative Court upheld the Council’s decision, according to which UAB Elmis, UAB LEDEVILA and UAB Vortex Capital were fined for bid-rigging in the public procurement for the purchase of construction and installation works.
In Antitrust Writing Awards 2017 the Competition Council’s guidebook “Cooperation with public institutions: how to reduce the risks of competition law infringement?” (Guidebook) received an award for the most innovative soft law in the cross-border category. The Guidebook was assessed by 50 international antitrust experts.
The Competition Council found that UAB Elmis, UAB LEDEVILA and UAB Vortex Capital (Companies) concluded a collusive bidding agreement while participating in the public procurement for the purchase of construction and installation works.
On December 5, 2016 the Competition Council confirmed the final conclusions of the market study on reimbursable pharmaceuticals (hereinafter – Study) that revealed competition problems in the market, to which possible solutions were proposed.
